2016 | monoprint | 10” x 13” | courtesy of Jeanne Randolph

Reserve: $1200

In memory of Bernie Miller, it is an honour to be able to offer this print and silkscreen as part of our auction. Miller was an admired artist, active member of the Canadian art community, a Plug In board member and the beloved partner of Jeanne Randolph. This print is emblematic of Miller’s in-depth research practices and interest in architecture. The image is of a couple moving into their suburban home in Levittown, Pennsylvania. Levittown is the name of several large housing projects through out the US and is often sited as the first and now defining archetype of the North American suburbs. A copy of a letter by Rita K. Calzarette depicted in the print accompanies the print.

Miller’s work in public sculpture explores monumentality, history, and identity relating to place. Miller is renowned for his uncanny public art on view in cities across Canada, while his smaller scale works are held in important collections across the country. Miller graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1974 and was the recipient of the Ontario College of Art Medal. His work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including Sensing the Future: Lázlo Moholy-Nagy and New Media, Bauhaus Archiv-Museum fur Gestaltung, Berlin and Plug In ICA, Winnipeg; My Winnipeg, la maison rouge, Paris; and Five Minute Mirror, Blackwood Gallery, Mississauga.
