Building (Standing Under Mis) 4 documents a moment in the project Standing Under Mis that took place at Katzman Contemporary as an unofficial summer residency in 2017. Chloë Lum and Yannick Desranleau with Marla Hdlay and Christof Migone collaborated to stage and document a series performances and installations using themselves and their things. The resulting photograph captures a fleeting moment of Lum and Desranleau’s collaborative and material focused artistic practice.
Chloë Lum and Yannick Desranleau are multidisciplinary artists who work in collaboration. Through their work in installation, video, and performance they explore collaborative creation and materiality. Lum received her BFA from Concordia University in 2015 is currently an MFA candidate at York University and divides her time between Toronto and Montreal. Desranleau holds an MFA in Sculpture from Concordia University. Lum and Desranleau have participated in many group exhibitions throughout Canada, the United-States, and in Europe, including the University of Texas, Austin; the Center for Books and Paper Arts, Columbia College, Chicago; the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal; the Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna; the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, England; and at Whitechapel Project Space, London. Their recent solo exhibitions include Rome, Khiele Gallery, St. Cloud State University, Minnesota; The Face Stayed East The Mouth Went West, the Confederation Centre Art Gallery, Charlottetown; Looming, YYZ Artists’ Outlet, Toronto; and Landscapes Events Reproducted, Blackwood Gallery, University of Toronto. Their performances have been presented at the Darling Foundry and as part of the OFFTA festival. In 2015 they were long listed for the Sobey Art Award. Lum and Desranleau are also known on the international music scene as co-founders of the avant-rock group AIDS Wolf, and have produced award-winning concert posters under the name Séripop. Lum & Desranleau are represented by Galerie Hugues Charbonneau in Montreal.
