Kandis Friesen’s delicate work for the Plug In gala is form a print series based on material from a small Russian Mennonite publishing house Echo-Verlag. The press’s specific focus was representing Russian Mennonite diaposric histories now mostly forgotten. The title and text of the work means Either Or! All or None! Related to a social uprising in the USSR in the 1930s.
Friesen is an interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker working in Montréal and Chicago. She has shown widely including Optica, Montreal; LUX, London, UK; Mural Arts Program / Broken City Lab, Philadelphia; Art Gallery of Hamilton; Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival; Athens Digital Arts Festival (Athens, GR), and MIX:NYC, Brooklyn. She recently completed a residency at MAWA in Winnipeg and is currently studying in the Art Theory & Practice program at Northwestern University.Available for purchase at the Plug In ICA 2017 Gala & Art Auction on November 4, 2017.
