Marcel Dzama | Untitled (reach with arrow)
1997-1999 | Watercolour & Rootbeer | 12.5” x 9.75” unframed

These watercolour and rootbeer drawings by the famed Marcel Dzama are impeccable examples that brought this Winnipeg born, Brooklyn based artist to international stardom. Like many of Dzama’s celebrated drawings, these early works beautifully capture a glimpse of the artist stream of conscious and decidedly cinematic approach to picture making.

Marcel Dzama is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Brooklyn.  Born and raised in Manitoba, Dzama is known for his drawing, sculptures, dioramas, films, and paintings.  His work is characterized by an immediately recognizable visual language that draws from a diverse range of pop culture references and artistic influences.  He received his BFA from the University of Manitoba’s School of Art in 1997.  Dzama has exhibited extensively across the world, with recent solo exhibitions including A Flower of Evl, Sies + Höke, Düsseldorf; The Fallen Fables, Crown Point Press, San Francisco; Hollow Laughter, Kunstmuseum Thun, Switzerland; and A Trickster Made this World, Galería Helga de Alvear, Madrid.  Dzama’s work is represented in collections across the world, including The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate Gallery; London; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; and the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa.
