Natalie Ferguson | Untitled
2016 | digital print |

This beautiful and detailed photograph by Winnipeg-based artist Natalie Ferguson has a double-take effect. It immediately grabs one’s attention with its saturated colour and close cropped-frame that equally rests on the surface and offers depth of field. But there is something else that keeps the eye resting on the image. There is an added sparkle. Ferguson has intervened, altering the landscape slightly with mesmerizing effect.

Natalie Ferguson is a Winnipeg based artist raised in La Salle, Manitoba. Her work utilizes photography and installation to investigate narratives surrounding constructed environments. She received her BFA from the University of Manitoba in 2007 and her thesis work was exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto, as the Regional Winner of BMO 1st Art! Student Competition. Her recent exhibitions include the solo show Pom Pom Grow Op, Semai Gallery, Winnipeg; The End is Near, Platform Centre for Photographic + Digital Arts, Winnipeg; Flash Forward Photography Biennale, Toronto; and the installation The Beau Geste Effect, created with Becky Thiessen and Ricardo Lopez-Aguilar for Nuit Blanche 2015, Winnipeg.

This work was donated to Plug In ICA for our 2016 Gala & Art Auction and proceeds from the sale of this work support Plug In's artistic and educational programming.
