This striking image from Winnipeg photographer Hannah Doucet’s series I Never Recognized Her Except in Fragments uses manipulated fabric to explore representations of the female body. Through her process the shifts between two and three dimensions the body becomes both distorted and more recognizable.

Hannah Doucet is a photo-based artist from Winnipeg, Canada whose artistic practice incorporates a range of media and material including sculpture, textile, video, and installation. Often engaged with the body, Doucet’s work explores the abilities and failures implicit within visual representation and material. Doucet received her BFA, honours from the University of Manitoba’s School of Art in 2015. Solo exhibitions of her work include I Never Recognized Her Except In Fragments, New Gallery, Calgary and Present Absence, C Space Gallery, Winnipeg. Doucet’s work has been featured in many group exhibitions locally and nationally, recently including Proof 23, Gallery 44, Toronto; Anticipating Distance, Avenue Gallery, Vancouver; and Fresh Paint, New Construction, Art Mur, Montreal. She is a co-founder of SCAN, a contemporary art publication based in Winnipeg.
